Geez this game, where do I even start.

The gameplay is really shallow. It feels like an idle game but it isn't and requires player attention. It basically boils down to maintaining your HP and MP while bringing down the enemies HP. There isn't much skill, depth and strategy involved.

The early warrior gameplay boils down to spamming attack and chugging potions to win.

Then, you get the heal over time spell so you just keep up that spell and spam attack. Later you get a shield spell that you can also maintain if you have enough MP. Debuff items can be thrown at enemies to make them weaker but this isn't really needed.

Late in the game, you get haste, the best spell in the game because speed is very, very overpowered so upkeeping this spell all the time is mandatory. Otherwise nothing changes.

Point is, fighting every enemy is the same and you rarely ever have to use any real tactics but just "run a mental script" of keeping up spells and auto attacking. Success or failure mostly boils down to having stacked numbers high enough to win rather than skill.

This game would unironically have been much better as an idle game.

This game HATES heavy armor and it HATES you if you dare to wear heavy armor. All pieces of plate armor or samurai armor will cripple your speed by values around -300. This is bad because it not only cripples your DPS, but your speed also affects your healing per round and MP regeneration which is crucial to survival. To top it off, most heavy armor tends to have 0 magic defense. And "magic" damage isn't just enemies casting spells but for some reason half of the enemies deal magic damage, including a skeleton with dual axes, a snail, slimes and a crystal dog. So heavy armor is actively worse than wearing notthing at all against half of the enemies. Because of this, for the most part of the game Warrior type characters will just wear a just cloth tunic with random pauldrons. Mages get a lot better looking equipment. Luckily, later on you get a "Battledress", which is a proper cuirass, vambraces and a chainmail skirt that makes you look actually quite cool and only has -150 speed, which is managable in the late game, and good magic- AND physical defense.

Conversely, for the same reason, you will be forced to wear an ugly and humiliating circlet instead of a proper helmet like a true warrior for about 75% of the game if you want to maximise DPS, HP and MP regeneration. Luckily, at least there is a cool looking helmet at the very end that has very high HP and MP regeneration which outweighs the benefits of the circlet if you already have high speed so you can stop wearing that darn thing.

Otherwise, there are a ton of interesting and unique acessories to make builds with. Almost none of them are viable and you will almost always want to have the HP recovery ring and the speed ring or loot drop accessories, though some damage boosts like the +8% crit one are situationally useful. For the late game, the Rainbowstone ring is  mandatory because the lategame bosses like stacking infuriating and stupid debuffs on you and bleeding you to death and the +20% penetration one is semi-mandatory because everything will take forever to kill. There are some accessories that cripple your defense and magic defense in exchange for huge damage boosts and life leach. All of these are useless and will get you killed in two hits. There is also an unarmed gauntlet which seems like a really cool item but it actually does less damage than a weapon even when you first get it and it takes up a highly competetive accessory slot so it is unusable.

The game also likes to put stupid, nonsensical penalties like "-10% crit chance, -10% dodge chance and -125 attack speed" on half of the blunt weapons, making them utterly unusable. But strangely not on the other half of them, as if the developer realised that this is stupid and stopped it but didn't go back to fix it on previous weapons.

Stats have arbitrary soft caps on 20 and 50. Generally, each point after 20 is worth half as much and each point after 50 is worth 1/4. This is never explained to the player.

Then there is the absolute excercise in pure misery that is the late-game. Around the Demonic Forge, the enemies start getting obnoxiously tanky which slows down the pace of the game. But when you get to the Dragon Burial Site, it gets worse and enemies (regular common enemies, not minibosses) start taking 3 real life minutes of repetetive combat to kill. Now you start fearing each enemy like the plague, not because they are dangerous, but because they take forever to kill and will waste your time.

Then comes the utter humiliation for the player that is the Void Realm. The Void Realm is a boss gauntlet of all previous bosses with awesome visual upgrades. This sounds like a really cool idea and I wish more games did boss gauntlets. However in practice, all of these bosses are HP sponges with just one gimmick you need to figure out to easily beat them. Then, you fight a Ringed Knight from Dark Souls who is just another HP sponge who takes forever to kill. Finally, you meet the Eternal Dragon, or the Eternal Drag On how I like to call him, who disappointedly looks nowhere near as imposing as in the opening cutscenes and looks like just another enemy. He has a JRPG final boss tier HP bar and takes forever to kill. But then, after beating him, you get kicked out again and have to do the crawl up the miserable damage sponge boss gauntlet and the JRPG final boss tier health dragon 3 more times to unlock his true form and banish him.

I feel like even the developer has lost interest to keep working on the game because while the first areas had a lot of flavourful and adventurous quests, the last few areas only have 2 or 3 quests associated to them each and even the weapon, armor, pet and magic shops stop getting more stock.

The post game is a joke with zero new quests and no new shop stock. You just fight an endless enemy gauntlet until you reach LV 100 if you really want to for some awful reason. The game should just have ended after the Eternal Dragon.

Then there is permadeath mode. Just don't bother. The game is not hard but if you fail one knowledge check or go into a boss you are underleveled for or, god forbid, try out a build with the wrong items, you can repeat 10 hours of repetetive grind.

I was also disappointed that there were no feline enemies to face in the game because the opening cutscene implied that they were a crossbred human monter race. The only feline in the game other than the player is Nyaala. In fact, there are no enemy orcs either, contrary to what the opening cutscene implies. And there are no NPC orcs. Orcs just don't exist in this setting. This is something I really hate because all races that exist in a setting should actually be present in form of NPCs or enemies, unless there is a very good lore reason for the player being the only one existing.

The game is also jam packed with a metric ton of Dark Souls references for some reason, even though Dark Souls is an action game and this is a turn based RPG. This is to the point where weapons have Dark Souls stat scaling, despite the fact that strength already boosts melee damage. I am also 99% sure this is the reason stats have soft caps. I haven't noticed any references to other games. I don't get the connection.

On the positive side, some of the art is really well done. The monster sprites especially are probably the best thing about this game. It's pretty clear that the developer is a very skilled and passionate artist, not a game designer. The music is also excellent and keeps you hooked to the game especially early on. I don't know if the music came preshipped with 001 Game Creator, but if not it's quite impressive.

Overall, this is a great study for aspiring game designers on how to not make an RPG.
