Currently unplayable on Linux. I lags with most versions of Proton, Glorious Eggroll, and raw custom wine prefixes. I just found this game as of today, so I don't know if support was dropped in favor of gameplay features. I would request if it is dropped, that you probably remove the tags that says it supports Linux. Alternatively, if you have a binary that I am missing inside the provided ZIP file, then appending the updated binary in the ZIP would also be great.
it's mindblowing how small changes can change how one percieves the game.
The new lighting looks great and fitting for the game's grit. Everything looks much more serious now. Same with the spritework and main menu music, much love to this wonderful track and it's creator. Big thanks for the mechanical/gameplay audio-visual tweaks too. The game feels much coherent in general now.
some feedback:
Some guns still sound a little off. Assault rifle sound is, personally, a bit weird and loud. Twin SMGs sound is still a big loud and jarring. Pistol and shotgun sounds are softer compared to them
Sniper rifle scope gets stuck for a moment - when you aim with RMB and the scope appears, you can't leave it quickly, only with a delay.
Shotgun sound delay is still here for me, not sure why. That 1st Eve terminal still just freezes my screen with the audio playing, no cutscene. Is there supposed to be a cutscene playing during that terminal speech?
my next update I plan on making all the weapon sounds the same balance and not so loudly my goal is to have every sound in the game actually around the same balance so it helps with volume control I never noticed that with the sniper until you said something thank you very much I'm going to look into fixing it your input has been very valuable in helping me make the game the best it can be the eve terminal is working fine on my end but I will try again to resolve that issue because it does sound annoying. Again thanks for your input it helps a lot and means the world!
amazing job on the overhaul update! played it right now, so far it's been good, it plays and feels much better. im having fun just looking around now. fighting enemies now can be a challenge, but it's still a bit chill, imo. might be just me, it's not really a bad thing. i'm not too far into the game either, still not done yet.
but so far i have some feedback on features and bugs:
1. Wonky sound balance: the audio is a bit all over the place. Some SFX are loud, while some are much quieter. Some sounds are delayed.
Loud sounds: menu music, teleport sound (it made me physically recoil lol, it almost hurts), ammo pickup sfx, SMG shot sfx, fermi slug death sfx.
Quiet sounds: pistol shot, some enemy sounds.
The in-game music and menu music are very different in volume - the menu is so loud, while in-game it's quiet (as it should be on my volume settings).
Shotgun sound is delayed - the sound play half a second later after i click LMB and the visual effect.
2. Collectables pickup green flash is a bit too bright, imo. The whole screen turns solid green for a moment, and it's not nice when playing in the dark. Very noticeable when you pick up multiple items. I got used to it after a while, but still it can be a bit distracting and uncomfortable.
3. Eve terminal text just freezes my game - it feels like a cutscene should play, but my screen just freezes, while the audio plays.
4. Adam's text can be a bit hard to read when his speech is long, as the size of his monologue window doesn't change, so the font just gets smaller.
cheers for your work again, mr dev. this project is lovely
thank you very much your feedback really helps me bring the game to its best I’m going to look into everything you mentioned and try and fix that for the next update 1.1 again thanks truly helps me and means the world !
I love the System Shock aesthetic (and also see influences from Marathon), so this was a pleasant and fun surprise for me! It felt like I've found a game from the late 90s, you've nailed that part, and the music selection is great.
Some suggestions to improve: 1 - Ammo color readability: It would help if I had the ammo color next to the ammo count on the HUD (or some info on the game)
2 - The "wooosh" sound of the sword :)
3 - The font used for the text is kinda hard to read (but I get it that it feels "computerish").
4 - More difficult: the voice to EVE is not that great and feels too much like SHODAN; maybe using AI to generate something that feels more artificial?
This really feels like a finished game, so any improvement is welcome, congrats :)
Thank you for playing the game it means the world to me I plan to do a quality of life and overall update soon to it and again thank you for playing!
That would be great! I'd do another playthrough for sure
I've just released a major overhaul update for Rampancy, focused on improving combat, readability, visual clarity, and overall polish based directly on player feedback.
it was rough...
The visuals have no coherency. I guess it's the aesthetic the game has, but even then everything blurs into a noisy gray and green mess, it's easier for the brain to filter it out, some enemies blend with the environment because of that. Text is hard to read, for some reason it's small for me and the font with green color don't help it. Weapons are bound to weird keys.
The pickups are hard to see. There's a reason any arcade shooters have big floating pickups with distinct shapes or even light coming from them. I know a case could be made for ammo/health pickups being small for realism/immersion purposes, but it doesn't fit in here, especially with the visual noise problems. It's hard to distinguish between ammo types too. There's white tubes and red tubes and i still have no idea which one is pistol ammo and which is rifle ammo.
The enemies seem pretty useless, i think i almost finished the game barely taking any hits, but at the same time some enemies hit way too hard and strip full armor by seconds.
The enemies overall are just kinda boring. They're really easy to stagger/stun and present almost no threat unless they're sniping you or ambushing in a small room. By the end i found it easier to just skip enemies and run to exit. The enemy corpses taking space is actually not good. Sometimes piles of corpses would prevent me from entering doorways or passing through corridors, i had to slowly and carefully hit or shoot them to move them out of my way.
The weapons aren't any fun either. I think i accidentally skipped the shotgun, i just couldn't find it. Fists have 0 range and damage. Pistol and rifle aren't much different. Sword, rifle and pistol stunlock the enemy forever, so i only used them.
I think i can see that the project has passion and drive, but man it does need some polish.
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to play and share your thoughts. You brought up some really good points about the visuals, readability, and overall game feel. I definitely see where you’re coming from with the visual noise, text/font issues, and difficulty spotting pickups—I’ll be working on improving clarity and readability. Same with enemies and weapons; I’m still in the polishing and cleanup stage, so feedback like this is super valuable for tightening up the gameplay and balancing.
I haven’t had much playtesting yet, so hearing how things come across to new players helps me know where to focus. Thanks again for helping me make the game better!
Thank you for taking notes and improving the game. I don't really think i'm the best person to do this kind of feedback thing, so i just tried to write what i thought of my experience. Hopefully the game gets even better!
And i hope more people can learn about your game, because I can see that Rampancy has genuinely more effort behind it than most other games on this site (not saying they're worse, but i think i have a right say that after playing so many games from "New releases" page on itch lmao)
