Switch off the night sky, one star at a time.

UNTIL ZERO is a minimalist puzzle built from the real night sky. Every level is an actual constellation — Orion, Ursa Major, Scorpius — its stars projected straight from sky data. The goal is simple to say and hard to master: turn every star dark.

How it works

Press a star and it — plus every star joined to it by a line — drops by one. A star already at zero doesn't stay off: it wraps back up and relights. So you can't just tap everything down — touching the dark undoes your work. Reading the figure and finding the exact order is the whole game.

Every press has to count. Your budget is the fewest moves possible — waste one and the sky stays lit.

Features

  • 87 real constellations, drawn from IAU sky data and projected to their true shapes.
  • Difficulty that climbs with the stars — from a 3-star warm-up to a 17-star tangle.
  • A short tutorial that teaches the twist before it bites.
  • Online leaderboards — a global ranking by total score, and a separate board for every single constellation. Beat the sky, then beat everyone else.

Controls

  • Mouse — search, pick a constellation, press stars
  • Type to search · Tab global leaderboard · R restart · Esc back

Every visual and every sound is generated in code — no engine, no assets. Just math and starlight.

Credits & data

  • Constellation figures & star positions: d3-celestial by Olaf Frohn (MIT), based on the official IAU constellation set and standard star catalogs. Star coordinates are projected onto a tangent plane to reproduce each figure's true shape.
  • Puzzle & generation: a numeric Lights Out (σ-game) over the finite field Zk. Levels are generated and every one is verified solvable via Gaussian elimination over Zk, with the press budget set to the minimum-weight solution. The mechanic follows Sutner's σ-automaton (1989) and the linear-algebra method of Anderson & Feil (1998).
  • Leaderboards: powered by Supabase.

Cool Game but sadly no polish letters, plus I suck at puzzles 8.27/10

Love it, is really fun and engaging

The polish and the amount of content in this game are crazy! The only complains I have are that a lot of the solutions where the same and the inclusion of the timer felt counterIntuietive for a puzzle game that is about precise choices. But I don't think I would have been able to create even 10% of this game in the time that we got.

We’re astronomy graduates and math-loving young people. By combining our knowledge with gaming, we’ve created some amazing projects. This game jam taught us a lot. But most of all, we learned from other people’s games. It was our first game jam experience, but we knew how to use the stars.  THANKS FOR PLAYING !!!

Holy shit dude how does one even make this???? AWESOME GAME

It's quite a nice looking game, well done!

One thing that I feel would make it it better is making it more visually clear (or explaining it better to know) at what point the chain destruction of the nodes would stop at once a node to zero.

Thank you for your feedback. With just a few hours left until the deadline, our team and I rolled out a major update—please feel free to check it out :) Thank you for playing. Some levels are quite challenging.

Just tried it and wow, it really is a big update!

I don't know if it will be fixable before the deadline but trackpad scrolling doesn't work in the level selector (choose a constellation list) and the clicking on the scrollbar (to drag it down) selects the level instead.

We will fix in 30 min

you can use arrow key for selecting

so good, soc razy to make this in one day, congrats!!

Pretty good for an early submission

Just did it. Your Welcome

Wow, pretty cool, very fast submission. I didn't read the instructions, but I managed to win by clicking the biggest number near the top most of the time. I had to restart a few times on the red level but got it the third time around. Pretty cool concept just needs a better tutorial so I don't feel like I'm cheesing it, haha

The visuals were very nice as well, felt professional

Thank you! I’m working on improving the level design. Since I have experience with tower defense games, I’ve developed algorithms to automate the level design process. I’m aiming to improve the visual quality a bit more with Love2D. I also feel like I want the game to have a bit more of that “game-like” feel. Plus, I’m thinking of making the puzzles more challenging. But I’d like to emphasize the “countdown” aspect a bit more.

(+3)

Yeah, I totally get that. The trickle-down effect feels like the closest thing to a countdown; maybe a more dramatic animation as each light disappears would make it more obvious that it is counting down. Or a level with a light that increments down by itself until reaching zero.
