Hi everyone,
I’m new to hosting game jams on itch.io, so I wanted to check what is allowed before setting anything up.
We created Pixel Game Lab, (www.PixelGameLab.com) a game-making platform originally developed for our educational programs in schools. We use it to teach pixel art, animation, level design, storytelling, and game creation. Although it was originally designed around education, we’ve started seeing interest from people of many different age groups.
I’m considering running an educational game jam on itch.io where participants would create an educational game using Pixel Game Lab. We would offer cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Normally, people can use a free demo account with most of the creation tools, but publishing a finished game requires a subscription. For the jam, I was thinking of giving every participant one month of Pixel Game Lab access for free, so there would be no cost to enter or create/publish their submission.
The completed games would be published in the Pixel Game Lab game library, and I was hoping the itch.io jam submission could then link to the finished game.
Would a jam structured like this be allowed here, as long as the jam itself is created and hosted through itch.io?
I’m not very familiar with the itch.io jam system yet, so I apologize if this type of jam isn’t permitted. I wanted to ask before promoting or creating anything.
Thanks!
